Our Eateries Favorites

Maple View Ice Cream :: 6900 Rocky Ridge Road, Hillsborough, NC and Across from the Weaver Street Market in Carrboro :: 919-960-5535

Maple View Dairy is our own home town dairy located just a few miles west of Carrboro and Chapel Hill. Their milk is available in local stores and in warm weather they sell Maple View Ice Cream from two local stores, one in Hillsborough and one in Carrboro. It is the freshest, best tasting ice cream you will find anywhere.

The Lantern :: 423 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC :: (919) 969-8846

The Lantern is one of my favorite Asian restaurants in Chapel Hill. Andrea Reusing and her brother Brendan Reusing are the chef-owners of Lantern. Their goal is to present simple, authentic Asian food with the freshest available Ingredients. The striking dining room and bar were designed by N.C. native (and current NYC resident) David Doernberg, an old friend and designer working in the film and television industry. The Lantern opened in 2002.

501 Diner :: 1500 N Fordham Blvd, 15-501 Bypass at Eastgate Shopping Center :: (919) 933-3505

501 Diner is my favorite placed for breakfast in Chapel Hill. Slip into a confortable booth and enjoy a cup of rich coffee as you choose from a breakfast selection that ranges from pancakes and waffles to eggs sardou. And if you are inclined to eat southern, they serve a great bowl of grits. This is my favorite place to catch up with old friends who come into town to see the Tar Heels play a ACC rival.

Tupelo’s :: 101 North Churton Street, Hillsborough, NC :: 919-643-7722

Tupelo's is a great restaurant for an evening when there is a chill in the air. Their hot sweet cornbread and a cup of coffee is true comfort food. Their cajun menu will spice up the evening and warm up in a totally different way. And be sure to ask what's for dessert. Warm evenings are great for sitting outside at the sidewalk tables right on Hillsborough's main street. If you linger past 9:00 you may hear some jazz drift up the street from the Blue Bayou Club. A good evening all around.

Weaver Street Market & Cafe :: 101 E Weaver St, Carrboro NC 27510 :: (919) 929-0010

The hot and cold food bars offer heart-healthy, fresh, organic dishes. Sample a buffet of international cuisines; sit and eat, or grab your meal and go. Great greens and beans, pastas, vegetables--some with an Asian or Mexican flair--complete the veggie heaven; the market also sells chicken, fish and other non-vegetarian items. For a nominal fee, you can become an owner of Weaver Street, receiving a discount and sharing in dividends. Or volunteer a few hours a week for a bigger discount. Feng shui workshops, creative art shows, healthy gourmet cooking classes and other educational opportunities are offered.

411 West :: 411 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 :: (919) 967-2782

If you are a wine drinker, hit 411 West in Chapel Hill for dinner on Monday night. Bottles of wine from their terrific wine list are 50% off. The food is always good and the people watching is great. After dinner, stroll around town and then duck into the surprisingly quiet and private 3 Cups Coffeehouse in The Courtyard for a pot of French pressed coffee or a pot of tea.
