The second weekend of October each year in Carrboro, at Carrboro Century Center, poets and enthusiasts of poetry gather and share in the experience of live poetry! Visit http://www.westendpoetsweekend.com for more details. 2008's gathering boasted over 300 participants and 35 poets, performing in genres from theatrical performances, readings, and music through spoken word and slam. There was something for everyone from grades K-5, Middle and High Schoolers and UNC Professors and students. Eight award-winning North Carolina Poets closed out the afternoon session. Our Carrboro and Hillsborough Poet Laureates got the evening started for the evening session at DSI Comedy Theater. The night blocks featured published poets, musical performances, spoken word artist Church da Poet and award winning poetry slam team, SlamCharlotte. Wow! What'll they do for an encore?
